- Dotwpod (Jan 08, 2023)

“Disconnected Souls' sound continues to evolve as the quintet thrives on embracing a vast array of influences, both musical and conceptual. "Dissonant Whispers" unveils a gothic and discordant theatricality not previously seen. Beware the whispers so dissonant. “New music by Disconnected Souls, Divine Shade, Enigmatical, Katatonia, Lord Of The Lost, Maledictis, and Nicarus.”

- Terra Relicata Radio (Jan 05, 2023)

“The band debuted the single, which reaches back to the sessions for its 2021 EP, Warning Elements, Monday. The song’s musical arrangement is a unique that immediately exhibits influence from the likes of Epica and Mushroomhead. That is evidenced in its symphonic instrumentation and contrast of its growling male vocals and more gentle singing. Audiences could even argue that there is an influence of Evergrey in this single, too.”

- Phillip Sayblack, Mayhem Rockstar Magazine (Jan 04, 2023)

“According to information provided about the new single, its lyrical theme blends references to magic and matters of the mind.”

- Phil, Phil's Picks (Jan 04, 2023)

“Multi-form metal band Disonnected Souls have dropped a new Christmas song for this holiday season titled “Can You Stop The Cavalry.” The song is a re-imagined version of the song “Stop The Cavalry” by Jona Lewie.”

- Bailey DeSchutter, MXDWN (Dec 25, 2022)

“There’s been some good stuff coming from Disconnected Souls’ revamping of Christmas tracks over the past five years. Yet, this might be the most unique take to date. As well as being one of the most unusual versions of Can You Stop the Cavalry most will have heard. The heavy use of electronica and synth, blended with a lighter beat, the vocal performances, and overall darker tone is simply fascinating. 8/10”

- Carl Fisher, GAMES, BRRRAAAINS & A HEAD-BANGING LIFE (Dec 23, 2022)

“First up we have eclectic metal band Disconnected Souls This is their 5th year of doing Christmas covers so it's a bit of a tradition for them The original track is Stop The Cavalry and they've done their own version of it It's a bit industrial, there's a lot of things going on with it The original song is cool, let's see how good they've done it! That was an interesting take on the original I can see myself getting into it with a few more listens!”

- Michael Stokes, Future Music From The Robot Lab (Dec 16, 2022)

“Disconnected Souls began revamping Christmas tracks with "Walking In The Air" in 2018. Now, in the fifth year of this tradition, "Can You Stop The Cavalry" was the most challenging Christmas cover song yet to tackle seeing two failed attempts at it which were djent and black metal respectively. The third attempt grew into the final version after going back to the drawing board and finding the trap sample. Turning the original major track on its head with metamorphosis into a minor sound, Disconnected Souls combines dramatic brass, explosive synths and intense guitars to produce a monumental impact. The single also sees newest member Felix take the lead on vocals, blending with the tone of Patrick's backing.”

- Jerneja, Terrra Relicta (Dec 08, 2022)

“Get into the festive spirit with a large dose of distortion. Unleashing their creativity and flare for instrumental layering, dynamic textures and compelling soundscapes, DISCONNECTED SOULS showcase their distinctive style through this dramatic re-imagining.”

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and once again the eclectic metal outfit Disconnected Souls have reworked a seasonal track into their distinctive style. This year sees “Stop The Cavalry” transformed into a high-impact electrified track which ventures into darker realms.”

- Jason Hesley, Toxic Metal Zine (Dec 03, 2022)

“Manifesting a restless nightmare from the eerily delicate piano melodies through to epic cinematic metal arrangements, “Dissonant Whispers” celebrates the atmospheric capabilities of DISCONNECTED SOULS merged with their love of the tabletop role playing game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Not only broadening their own horizons of musicality the ensemble also strives to enhance the listening experience and open the minds of their audience. The stark contrasts of dark and light across the instrumentation and vocals heightens the uncanny mood. Holly’s soaring cleans, keys and orchestration, deliver a chaotic divergence from Patrick’s edgy cleans, demonic harsh along with dynamic electronics and heavy distortion.”

“Matthew Simon Fletcher states this about the upcoming song: “I’m delighted to share our new conceptual piece, Dissonant Whispers with you! The origins of this track date back to prior to the completion of our ”Warring Elements” EP, so this has been gently stewing in the background for a while. It’s been nice to have a slower paced approach, contrasting some of our tracks that have been completed in only a few months! I think this is noticeable in the careful crafting of both the orchestral parts and the textural FX layers. There are a lot of undulating parts which contribute to the wide dynamics – all with the aim of taking you on an emotional rollercoaster; as always, we intend to really make an experience for the listener. So, what are you waiting for? Come and take a spiritual voyage with us into an ethereal realm.””

“Holly Royle is a musician who shares her talent with the world through her band Disconnected Souls. She writes and produces music, sings, and plays the keyboard and guitars. Besides being a talented musician, Holly Royle is also an inspirational writer and music journalist. Her articles on women in Metal are both powerful and insightful and have been inspiring for me personally. I had the privilege to chat with Holly Royle and ask her about her band Disconnected Souls and their upcoming plans, as well as her views on many issues.”

- Mirkwood, Femme Metal Rocks (Sep 11, 2022)

“Following their ethereal single release Petrichor, Kintsukuroi brings intense energy through anthemic choruses, hard-hitting breakdowns and a hard style interlude with an unexpected edge. Emotive vocals deliver intimate cleans, while utterly guttural harsh carry an unrelenting anguish. Disconnected Souls strive to create material that is compelling but also challenges and broadens the horizons of their audience. Contrapuntal melodies, carefully considered, cultivate an immersive atmosphere that aptly mirrors the lyrical content of the track.”

- Lamb Goat (Aug 10, 2022)

“Cinematic metal. That is how Disconnected Souls (who are based in Chester, by the way) describe themselves and I agree. Both the vocal and instrumental versions are slickly produced and coherent, especially considering the disparate influences weaving their way in and out of the tunes, and everything just WORKS. I really like this young and up and coming bunch of British bruisers”

- Joseph Carrasco, Super Cool Radio (Jun 28, 2022)

“I think the lyrics of the standard version of the song complete the meaning behind the song, but I've always thought it should be a standard that artists release the instrumental versions of their songs so listeners can hear all the aspects of the music itself, and this is the plan going forward with future Disconnected Souls releases. A full song is greater than the sum of its parts, but I still find it fascinating to hear certain aspects of the song often masked by the vocal layer.”

- News Beezer (Jun 19, 2022)

“Vocalist Patrick Lloyd comments: "'Kintsukuroi' (金繕い), translated to English as "golden repair", is a Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold - the gold fills in the cracks, emphasising the scars, and thus, embracing the history and newfound beauty of the object. The people around me go through so many hardships in life, and I wanted to write that despite all the pain that they've been going through, I sorely wish that they will come out the other side stronger and more "beautiful" (in a metaphorical sort of sense).”

"This is so different and so interesting that I can’t give the EP the deserved summary apart from you’ve got to hear it to comprehend the sound this band tries to invoke."

- Kess Anthony, Off The Hook Music Reviews (Mar 27, 2020)

“A 5 piece progressive/cinematic metal band from Chester, UK. In my opinion 'Divergence' is the track you should listen to first when you come across this band. Within seconds you realise why their genre is defined by the label "cinematic". PC games, epic movies, you name it, this is what you hear playing in the background. Very distinctive sound, unique blend of lore and metal. I urge you to give this band a listen and discover more about their really interesting- to say the least- music.”

- Ina, Inner Demon Records (May 25, 2022)

“A scintillating six minutes start with brief lilting piano that’s blasted away by crushing Prodigy like soundscapes that morph into a doom laden piece and the pace picks up a notch towards an ethereal orchestral string laden end of sparse piano and a haunting vocal that reaches out to your very soul.”

- Dennis Jarman, Planet Mosh (Dec 24, 2021)

“From the epic synth intro “Emergence”, flowing into the ethereal “Divergence”, through the utterly heavy of the title track and softer ballad that is “Shatter”, the EP explores a wide spectrum of the band’s capabilities.”

- Tom Hanno, Tom's Reviews (Mar 05, 2021)

“Since forming a few years back, Cheshire four-piece Disconnected Souls have worked hard on crafting a unique, atmospheric sound that, although rooted in metal, is drawn from a wide range of musical genres, and effectively showcases the band’s ability to experiment sonically.”

- Zak Slowman, Muzark Reviews (Dec 28, 2020)

“This is an unusual piece that intentionally diverges from the previous tracks DISCONNECTED SOULS have produced. “Petrichor” is a fantastical experiment which establishes the genre mixing and creative composition that is to come in their next chapter.”

“The single sees Disconnected Souls delve further into orchestral composition and the world of soundscapes to produce their own eerily beautiful rendition of the track. Holly’s vocals explore the lower end of her range to enhance the haunting elements and reveal more of the sounds the band can create.”

- Holly Royle, Holly Royle Blog (Dec 04, 2020)

“‘Oathbreaker’ is the new single from metallers, Disconnected Souls. This single lands ahead of their debut EP, ‘Warring Elements’ which releases on Friday 13th March 2020. ‘Oathbreaker’ combines what is best described as a heavy hard rock track with a synth fuelled breakdown. Keeping a sense of the eerie and dissonant, the first verse sees Patrick and Holly’s vocals deliver an emotional and ethereal harmony.”

- Holly Royle, Deviate PR (Feb 15, 2020)

“Disconnected Souls combines metal with electronic and orchestral elements – we have a lot going on! This track is essentially a hard rock track with djent guitars and an electronic breakdown. Other songs on our EP take greater influence from symphonic metal, whilst others bring in deathcore. We even have a ballad featuring wonderful friends and musicians from around the world!”

“Hailing from Chester and Manchester in the UK, the metallers combine their music with classical and electronic elements to create a powerful sound. Their new release, a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘The Power of Love’ will release on the 3rd December 2020. This new cover delves into haunting and ethereal synths, orchestration and heavy guitars. With the ups and downs of this year, ‘The Power Of Love’ seemed an appropriate choice in an attempt to bring some positivity to the scene. Disconnected Souls have created a tradition for themselves by releasing the cover of a Christmas song each year. This cover is their third following last year’s ‘A Spaceman Came Travelling’, by Chris de Burgh, and their first cover, ‘Walking in The Air’ which took inspiration from Nightwish’s interpretation. Check out their previous covers on YouTube!”

“Following on from the release of their acclaimed debut EP Warring Elements, back in March, Disconnected Souls have thrown themselves into writing for their next release, taking their composition and production to the next level. Releasing The Power of Love not only gives fans something new to enjoy in between major releases, it lifts the curtain on some musical elements that will be found in future compositions. This track also sees backing vocals contributed from Jonny Young and Lindzi North of the progressive metal duo, Fight The Tornado.”

““I've been spending so much more time at my keyboard over the past few months, and I began breaking down our tracks as a means of practising. 'Divergence' is our most popular track, at least according to our streaming data, and I find it lends itself to reinterpretation. This is very much a stripped back, one take, piece that isn't supposed to be 'perfect' but gives an insight into our composition methods and shows a different side of our sound." ~ Holly”

Fusing metalcore sounds with intense electronics, folk instruments and a choir singing in Latin, the genre busting outfit have produced their most dynamic seasonal treat yet.”

- Metal Odyssey (Nov 28, 2021)

“To call this a bad track is no fault of Disconnected Souls, they do a great cover that they manage to make their own. It’s simply a matter of hating the original so much, the melody can’t be saved no matter what you do to it.”

- Carl Fisher, Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (Dec 20, 2021)

“Continuously pushing the boundaries, the quartet based out of Chester, England, strive to create a distinctive sound that draws upon the depth of metal, while playing with tones and textures from all musical styles. Following the release of their latest avant-garde single “Petrichor”, the new single dives into energetic rhythms, deliciously distorted guitars and electric synthesizers. The cover also sees DISCONNECTED SOULS hark back to their Warring Elements EP featuring a choir of fellow musicians and friends. This time, performing a Latin translation of the chorus to add in an extra layer of experimentation.”

- John Deaux, All About This Rock (Dec 21, 2021)

- Permafrost (Dec 18, 2021)

“Inventive Metal band Disconnected Souls have shared an amazing and heavy take of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Merry Xmas (War Is Over)!” An annual tradition as much as hanging the stockings with care and trimming the tree, this is the bands’ fourth year in a row of a cover song for Christmas. Blending metalcore sounds with intense electronics, folk instruments and a choir singing in Latin, the genre-defying band is also joined by a plethora of talented guests on the track. Check out here!”

- Ghost Cult Mag (Dec 16, 2021)

“This is an unusual piece that intentionally diverges from the previous tracks DISCONNECTED SOULS have produced. “Petrichor” is a fantastical experiment which establishes the genre mixing and creative composition that is to come in their next chapter.”

- Metal Warehousse (Dec 09, 2021)

“Disconnected Souls' Petrichor heaves with primal energy, expressing the beauty and power inherent in nature. Harp notes descend in a gentle pattern before ferocious, jagged synth bass thunders along with heavy drums.”

“I've wanted to get these two very talented musicians on the show for a while and I'm happy that I've finally completed an interview with them. I interviewed Holly Frances Royle and Matthew Simon Fletcher of Disconnected Souls and Sensory Enigma fame.”

- Michael Stokes, Future Music From The Robot Lab (Apr 13, 2021)

“It’s always a challenge to review a Christmas single. Firstly, I can’t stand Christmas songs and secondly, I rarely enjoy a cover version either, so combine the two and I’m really struggling to find anything joyous to comment about.”

- Paul Hutchings, The Razors Edge (Dec 16, 2021)

“Next up we have Disconnected Souls, they're are progressive metal band from the UK.”

- High Speed Hangover (Dec 05, 2021)

“We’ll have some epic hangs, improvise some new instruments and get a new concept album written before dawn and be picked up shortly later… probably. Perhaps I’m too optimistic.”

- The Razors Edge (Dec 13, 2021)

“The haunting vocals from HOLLY ROYLE then creep in and this track reminded me of something from the EVANESCENCE album “Fallen". Her vocals here sound soft as the aggressive vocals of Patrick Lloyd come in and we sort of get this vocal trade off between the two. Some cool riffs are present and the instrumentation is really interesting.”

- Metal Temple (Oct 26, 2021)

“Divergence – Unexpectedly poppy intro, but with some sophisticated underlying chords. Quite Celtic sounding vocals. They could do with more volume and greater confidence injecting into them, but there’s an intriguing gothic tone within them, too.”

“The Warring Elements are opposites, but neither is ‘good’ nor ‘evil’ – if you’re wondering why I’m using inverted commas for this it’s because ‘good’ and ‘evil’ rely very much on perspective… although I won’t get into this just now! “Warring Elements” is set in a fictional universe which will allow us to explore other ideas with future releases that all link together (hopefully). If we’re going to do concept albums, we might as well go all in right?!”

"That was the fabulous Disconnected Souls and Divergence - now they are a metal band from Manchester and their debut EP is released on Friday the 13th of March"

- North Herts Radio, Spotlight (Feb 24, 2020)

“Following the ruling of Potter (QC) in the case of United Biscuits (UK) Ltd (No. 2). [1991] BVC 818, this band agree to abide by the judgement that Jaffa Cakes be recognised as a cake. From a philosophical perspective I would suggest that the terms “cakes” and “biscuits” are simply abstract concepts, which are not in themselves a true definition or reflection of the entities that we may be attempting to describe and that in fact no words could sufficiently describe their true nature. Furthermore, any debate on this matter suggests an attachment to form based thinking, which is actually the root of human suffering.”

- Ever Metal (Aug 06, 2021)

“'Divergence' is part of the overarching concept of our EP 'Warring Elements' - a clash of two opposing forces. It isn't about 'good' vs 'evil', it's far more human with both sides containing a mixture of 'good' and 'evil'. These are tricky concepts considering 'good' and 'evil' rely on moral judgements which vary between cultures and beliefs etc., hence why we wanted to avoid that binary division. So far, it's proving to be our most popular track - at least according to our streaming data!”

- One Of The Last (Mar 03, 2021)

“The Disconnected Souls cover version is a different story. They handle the song in a much subtler way, diminishing the 1980’s feel and replacing it with a much more thoughtful and ambient soundscape. ‘The Power of Love’ really lends itself to this genre as it is a long and slow song, leaving plenty of space for all manner of synths and guitar sounds to fill the void.”

- Charlie Smith, Off The Hook Music Reviews (Dec 08, 2020)

“The metallers from Chester, UK, combine classical and electronic elements with metal to create a dynamic signature sound. This new cover delves into haunting and ethereal synths, orchestration and heavy guitars.
